Health & Safety Advisor

NOVA Mechanical and Construction and RPM Contracting is looking for a knowledgeable and dedicated Health and Safety Advisor to join our team be accountable for the safety program for all divisions of NOVA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Development, implementation, communication, and maintenance of all Workplace Health and Safety policies and programs.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant Health and Safety Legislation, Regulations and by-laws and maintenance of COR.

  • Be present in the field to ensure compliance and be available for support for safety related items.

  • Advise on safety standards, Regulations, and Legislation.

  • Recommend procedures and equipment for risk reduction and to ensure compliance (e.g. Personal Protective Equipment).

  • Update, maintain and deliver safety orientation, on-going training, and awareness programs for all employees.

  • Participate in the investigation of workers' concerns and complaints with respect to Health and Safety issues while maintaining the employee's right to confidentiality.

  • Participate in incident investigations and develop recommendations to prevent future occurrences.

  • Maintain and update health and safety records and reports.

  • Maintain and ensure compliance with all training.

 

Requirements:

  • Safety Advisor with industry experience, construction and earthworks experience considered an asset.

  • ACSA training (either completed or willing to obtain): Principles of Health & Safety Management (PHSM); Leadership for Safety Excellence (LSE); Alberta OHS Legislation Awareness (LEG); Auditor Training Program (ATP); Certified auditor with ACSA.

  • NCSO considered an asset

  • Must be able to work independently and take ownership of the safety program to ensure all aspects are maintained and completed.

  • Extensive understanding of current Occupational Health and Safety Legislation, Regulations, Codes of Practice, Bulletins and other safe work practice requirements and recommendations.

  • Experience and knowledge managing WCB cases

  • Ability to work both in the office and field, proper PPE is required to access job sites.

  • Driver’s license with acceptable driver’s abstract.

  • Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency with Computer Software including Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and online platforms.
